What Is An Implant?

At John Hartford Family Dentistry, dental implants are the ultimate way to restore teeth.
Implants are the latest improvement for patients who have lost one or more teeth. An implant is a titanium screw placed in the jawbone and after healing, a porcelain or gold crown is made to fit the space. The crown is supported by the implant.

By securely anchoring the implant directly to your jaw, you can achieve a result that looks and feels just like the real thing. We provide outstanding implant dentistry treatment options.

How Is An Implant Placed?

It might sound complex or confusing, but it is simple to restore a missing tooth with an implant. First, we will begin by making a small incision in the gum, which allows access to your jaw. A small hole is then drilled directly into the bone and the implant is carefully inserted. A cover is placed over it to keep it safe and clean. The implant will need to heal for a few months before it is ready to be restored. During that time, you brush and floss all of your other teeth just like normal.

When it is time to restore the implant, you will have another visit with Dr. Hartman and his team to have your restoration placed. An impression is taken and a crown is custom made to fit your implant. Our team will carefully select the perfect shade to match your existing teeth.

Some patient’s worry that implants are painful since it has been inserted into your jaw. We remove that worry by our excellent pre, post, and follow up care. The good news is that it is far less painful than having a filling. Know you’re in good hands when you choose our dental team for your implant needs.
